Apply to Graduate School

To be admitted to a graduate program, you must meet the admission requirements of the Graduate School and your graduate program. The Graduate School must receive a COMPLETE application package before a decision for admission can be made. The complete application package must consist of the following Admission Requirements.

Admission Requirements:

ALL of the following application materials must be received prior to the posted application deadlines.

1. Completed Application for Admission

APPLY NOW by clicking this link. Incomplete applications cannot be processed.

Please notify the Graduate School if your registration plans change from that indicated on your application.

2. Application Fee

A non-refundable $35.00 application fee is required for all applications. The easiest way to pay is with a credit card when applying online. You may also send a check or money order to the Graduate School; Be sure to include your full name, date of birth, and your intended graduate program. Do not send cash. Applications will not be processed until the fee payment has been received.

3. Official Entrance Examination Scores

Entrance examinations are required for all degree-seeking applicants. The general GRE is accepted for most graduate programs. Applicants to the Master of Business Administration program are required to complete the GMAT instead of the GRE. Some programs accept the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) in place of the GRE. While some programs in the College of Education currently accept specific Praxis II scores, the Praxis exam will no longer be acceptable for applications submitted after July 1, 2011. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact their respective graduate programs for more information about acceptable examinations. In all cases, only official examination scores, sent directly from the testing center, may be used to grant clear admission. Copies of examination scores are not acceptable.

4. Official Transcripts

Applicants who are not Eastern Kentucky University graduates must submit an official transcript to the Graduate School from their degree-granting institution.  No action can be taken on admission until official transcripts are received. (Note: For transcripts to be official they must bear the seal and signature of the registrar of the sending institution and come directly from the institution or be issued to the student by the sending institution in a sealed envelope). Transcripts for graduates of EKU will be obtained by the Graduate School.

Applicants may only be granted Clear Admission if the transcript indicates the awarding of a baccalaureate or advanced degree. The degree must be awarded by a regionally-accredited institution. Applicants who have not completed all requirements for their undergraduate degree may be considered for Provisional Admission.  Provisionally admitted students must submit an official transcript indicating the awarding of the baccalaureate or advanced degree before they are permitted to register for courses in any subsequent term.

5. Statement of Personal and Professional Objectives

Write a brief sketch outlining your personal and professional objectives in graduate study. Indicate their relationship to the graduate program you wish to pursue. While there is not a length requirement, your statement must be sufficiently detailed so that both the Graduate School and your intended program of study can ascertain your objectives in seeking a graduate degree. Applicants are encouraged to contact their perspective graduate program for additional details about the statement of objectives.

Personal Objectives Statements may be completed as part of the online application process, or they may be typed on a separate sheet and sent directly to the Graduate School. Statements that are sent by separate cover to the Graduate School should include your full name, DOB, address, phone number and the department for which you are applying so that your statement is properly filed with your application.

6. Letters of Recommendation

A few of our programs require letters of recommendation. Again, those programs that do so specifically indicate this in the "Admission Requirements" section of the Graduate Catalog for the program. If your intended program requires letters of recommendation, please have these letters sent directly to the program coordinator.

NOTE: Credentials submitted for admission purposes become the property of the Eastern Kentucky University. If the applicant does not enroll within one year, the admission file is destroyed unless the student contacts the Graduate School.
